Valuation of intangible assets

The valuation of intangible assets is primarily a question of valuing a company’s intellectual property, including:
  • patents, licenses, certificates for industrial property assets (inventions, utility models, industrial prototypes, trademarks and service marks, commodities places of origin etc.)
  • know-how
  • certificates of authorship for scientific, literary and art works, software, databases etc.
Intellectual property valuation is necessary to include intangible assets in the enterprises authorised capital when negotiating purchase and sale contracts and concluding licensing agreements for the right to exploit intellectual property, as well as for determining compensation etc. Objective information concerning the assets actual value is essential for managerial decision-making.
